Once upon a time, in the far corner of Poland in the little town of Czortkow  and in the middle of Nazi horror one person saved life of another one and influenced lives of many other people throughout years.

In our project, we tell the story of the small Jewish girl – Inka and her rescuer  Maria Mikusz – Meva – our “unsung hero”. Although we concentrate on Meva, the rescue wouldn't have been possible if it hadn't been for Meva's parents - Mr. and Mrs. Dobrucki.

Why is our project called “Under the seagull's wings?”  “Seagull” in Polish means Meva and that was Maria Mikusz nickname during the war.

"When you save one man's life, you save the whole world".  Meva did it by rescuing Inka. But she still does, by rescuing us from stereotypes, prejudice, ignorance, giving us our own history that we can be proud of. The school won’t give us something like that. The media won’t provide that. We won’t meet it on Facebook. It’s our hero who told us the story.
